10 July 2008 - 4th Place in the John Moyle Memorial

Our Secretary Allan received this certificate today stating that we were fourth in the John Moyle Memorial Field Day - 2008 - with 438 point from 239 contacts.

Andy and Allan talked themselves hoarse that weekend. The club could have done better if more operators would have gotten on the radios .
But it was fun and a learning curve of how things are done .
Not bad for our inaugural activation of the new club call - VK2AOJ - on 10m/20m/40/80m

1 May 2008 - 400 Mhz Discussion

The ACMA - Australian Communications and Media Authority - is the Government agency that - amongst other things - issues our amateur radio licences. They have plans for the 70 cm band that may not be that advantageous for us, amateur radio operators. The 400 - 500 Mhz range is a very attractive part of the spectrum and there is a lot of pressure from the military and commercial organisations to carve it up differently.

At the moment licenced radio amateurs have access to the range 420 - 450 Mhz on a secondary basis with most activity taking place between 430 - 440 Mhz. In the past we used to be primary users (like in some other parts of the world) so we already have lost something... We recommend reading the discussion paper that ACMA put together about this restructuring. If you have valuable comments, make sure you submit those to the ACMA (closing date is Friday 18 July 2008).
